love this place! They have delicious sandwhiches and I can get just about any beer or wine that I want. They are a bit on the pricer side though so I only go when I have extra cash. If they were cheaper, I'd probably give them five instead of four stars.

The Deli Lama Cafe is a fantastic place for craft beer and harder to find liquor options, that masquerades as a typical convenience store, and not quite a cafe. The owner is awesome and friendly. The deli itself provides delicious sandwiches (using Boar's Head meats, among others), a real surprise the first time I tried one. But my friend and I met there once for a ladies lunch, and quickly realized that its not exactly a cafe. I mean, there's a counter and chairs, but it's not exactly what we were looking for, in the same way Subway is not a cafe- albeit the DL has way better sandwiches! There's a walk-in cigar humidor, and even bigger craft brew walk-in where you mix and match, if you so desire. It's a few bucks more than a single-product 6 pack, but well worth it for the sampling possibilities, especially if you're looking for a gift for a craft beer lover. If you're in the area, I'd highly suggest a stop for such a gift- and a yummy sandwich.

There is an enormous beer selection here, and, as others have mentioned, one can create his or her own six pack. There are a couple of problems--a big one is that each beer is charged individually and it's impossible to know how much you're spending until you get to the counter. I could have drunk my personal six pack at a bar for the same price. Another problem is that it's tough to know how long these bottles have been hanging out in the walk-in. I saw summer and fall brews (it's February) and some whose labels have seen much better days. My suggestion: Avoid clear bottles. (Well, that's ALWAYS my suggestion). Still, it's very fun to look at all the beer. The six pack fills up right quick. It's like being an English major at City Lights bookstore.

On my last trip here to create my own six pack, I finally got a chance to try their deli sandwiches. I got the Italian one (forget the exact name), and it was amazing. My only complaint was how long it took for them to make it. If they can speed up the sandwich making and price the bottles of beer in the cooler for the six packs, this place would be perfect.

What an amazing place! For starters, being greeted as soon as I walked in the door made me feel like an old friend and not a customer. The sandwiches are always made to order with the freshest and finest boars head meat. The bet selection is truly amazing! If it's in the store, you can use it to create your own 6 pack. If it's not in the store, just say something and it will be ordered. Definitely the go to place when my family wants a great sandwich!

Best sandwiches anywhere. I love the Napa chicken. I send all my friends and they all love it too. Fresh ingredients, great combos and love the music!

To clarify, this is basically an upscale convenience store, but leaning mostly towards food and drink. Like another reviewer said, "part liquor store, part deli." Great selection... very competitive prices... amazing sandwiches... and a really friendly and helpful owner.

Unfortunately, from MY personal experiences, I need to give a low overall mark of satisfaction. Trust me, in that I very much wanted to give high-marks. I was actually the very first person to bring Deli Lama into our workplace. I liked their choice of ingredients and niche combination of deli, pantry, and liquor availability. However, since the standard vegitarian options were minimal, I would order the same menu choice. Each time that I did, something would interfere with my order being delivered, as advertised in the menu. After consistently being unable to get one ingredient, or another, I figured three strikes....and they were out. However, to be fair, I allowed some time to pass and once again, ordered the same item...having the exact same problem. I haven't been back since, on principle. Four identical problems in-a-row, over a period of months was much too consistent to completely disregard. I do hope they've corrected this issue and hope they continue to prosper. However, I have absolutely no motivation to return. Too bad.

Great sandwiches. The only thing that didn't make it 5 stars was the bread. It was starting to get hard. I like soft bread or rolls for a cold sandwich.

The Deli Lama is a great place to go for a solid deli sandwich at a decent price. The store also has an excellent selection of beer and liquors. Darren (the owner) is a good guy and maintains a clean store. The sandwiches crush anything you'd get at Subway. Sometimes, if it gets busy, it may take a little longer to get your order, but the wait is never unreasonable. You can call ahead if you don't like to wait. I don't mind the wait, and usually spend the time browsing the beer section.

Random drive down route 83 brought me to this awesome place. The owner makes a great sandwich and my friend Kevin gets lost between the beer cave and cigar humidor. Hit a snag once when his debit card was declined but he's been back several times since then after payday! The owner lets you sample alcohol before purchasing which is awesome nowadays!

Overpriced, mediocre selection. I'll pass. If I'm going shopping for veriety and great prices on craft beer I'll go to Antioch.

Wow what a hidden little gem great sandwiches good beer choices only 4 stars because not much room to sit for groups but no big deal. They also deliver yes liquor also .

Good everyday beer selection, and they get hard to find beers that a lot of the other craft beer stores don't get. They tend to have some hard to find beers available for purchase when everyone else has already sold out. Also, they have a deli. Food & beer.

Not even a one star rating!! Def not an "upscale" deli! If you don't mind getting spoke to RUDELY, this is your place!!

GEM ON THE ROADSIDE I was driving down the road and saw this place on the side of the road. I loved the name and thought it was cute. I knew I would be passing back in a few hours and decided to check it out. Before going here I tried calling. The phone rang and rang and then went to a fax machine. At first, I thought someone had posted the wrong number on Yelp. 10 seconds later my phone rang and it was the Deli Lama himself. He apologized for missing my call and asked if he could help me. Who does that? The Deli Lama does! To me that is amazing customer service and I can just end my review now. I can tell that this place is going to be great just by that phone call. It is little things like that, which can make a business successful. After walking in, there is a lot to see and buy. If you're in the mood for beer pong there is a giant bucket of ping pong balls available. They also have a ton of drinking tools. Like shot glasses, bottle openers, martini glasses, shakers, etc... The Deli Lama knows how to party! This place boosts a big craft beer cave. You can also make your own six packs by choosing the beers you want. Check out my photos and you will be impressed. They also have a giant humidor full of cigars. There is also aisles of hard liquor too. The Deli Lama really knows how to party! I did not have a sandwich but they sound really good. Plus this places uses Boars Head which is really good quality. Yes this place has much to offer depending on what you need. The guy behind the counter was really nice too. He knew customers by name. Even asking a customer if she was thinking about getting a sandwich for dinner. It was like he knew why she came in. I'm assuming that this was the same guy who called me back. So if you are in the area and you are looking for a unique roadside store, then this is the place. From craft brews to sandwiches to cigars...this place has you covered with all the basics of a party. Long live the Deli Lama...I'm sorry I can't stop saying it...try saying it out loud...it's fun and witty! DELI LAMA!!! Okay I'm done.

This place is great! All of the sandwiches are so good. And while you wait for them to make it, check out the beer selection. The stock is always changing, so there is constantly something new to try. And if they don't have want you want, just ask. It will be in the next order. And last time I was there I even learned they delivered (even beer)! What else could you ask for? Do yourself a favor and check this place out.

  • Tim W.

Great selection of craft beers. You can make your own 6 packs so if you want to try something new, this is the place. No need to buy a 6 pack of a beer that you find out you hate.

It's tough to find anything negative about The Deli Lama and I haven't even tried any of their sandwiches. I used to live very close to the Deli Lama and wish I had stopped in a lot more than I did. Everyone of the staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. For being such a small store, the beer selection is outstanding. You can usually find some Three Floyds in the cooler and that is hard to find even in Chicago at times. They have a great selection of 6 packs or create your own 6 packs in the walk in cooler. The prices are very reasonable. It'd be very hard to find a better place to get beer in the area. Outstanding!

This shop is a top-notch gem to the community. Darren is friendly, and extremely knowledgeable, especially to craft beer geeks like myself. Their beer cooler has an amazing selection and wide variety to choose from. Their "Create your own 6 pack" deal had me making the 45 minute commute, despite having a Binny's within a mile of my house. And their deli??? Don't even get me started....their tuna salad is my personal addiction, but their sandwich selection is high quality. Seriously....Deli Lama is one of the area's best kept secrets, but shouldn't be. Well worth the visit...or *ahem*...multiple visits in my case.

Stopped in one day to try a sandwich, but the deli was closed. So I grabbed a soda instead, but didn't have cash. When I handed the woman my debit she gave me the look of death. Not going back.

Love this store. The owner is the best. Very friendly and even carried my bags to the car the first time I stopped in. He has THE best beer selection for miles and will even bring your favorites in by request. He just added a cool little seating area for eating in. Sandwiches use yummy boarshead deli meat. My daughter likes the big candy selection. The owner takes great care in serving customers and making improvements to the business and selection. I wish more people would give it a try! This is not your typical convenience store.

Great beer selection. Great sandwiches. And the owner, Darren, is knowledgable and personable. Special requests are taken seriously. It's obvious that Darren has a passion for what he does and he treats you like a friend the moment you walk in. And he has a great taste in music. Warm and inviting, the Deli Lama has made shopping an experience, not a chore. Other local businesses should take note.

We love this place! NO BODY can beat their sandwiches! Fresh, high quality, and generous portions. Plenty of other snack-y things to go along with them, too. The beer cave is extremely well stocked and you can build your own six pack from a huge array of different brands. To top things off there is a nice walk-in humidor with a quality selection of cigars. Need lunch, party supplies, or a smoke? This is the place!

  • Dennis P.

Great selections are offered here. The owner takes care to make the best sandwiches. While you wait you can check out his craft beer and wine selections. I would not steer you wrong in saying that if you are in the area you must have a sandwich and look around a bit. He has a lot of stuff under one roof! Not a lot of seating area. If you want to know where the locals go... here it is.

Darren makes a very good sandwich and has a great beer selection. A convience store with class. A bit pricey but it's all high quality stuff.

Wow! Terrific store! We went in for a sandwich and ended up spending an enjoyable hour chatting with the owner and trying a few delicious wines and one cucumber vodka! Totally charming! We plan to make it a regular stop!

You have to check out this store. You can get almost any alcoholic beverage here. If you want beer you can buy by the bottle, sandwiches are really good and the owner is very personable. He likes you know you by your name and remembers it. It can be pricey but SO WORTH IT.

The sandwich I got there tasted like a fresh homemade sandwich which was filling and good. Would I crave it and have withdrawals when I can't get it? Nope. But It's nice to support neighborhood businesses (and it wasn't bad tasting), so I would go again.

Part Liquor Store, Part Deli. Amazingly good sandwiches that keep tempting me to come back.

More than your usual convenience store, that is for sure. If you come in, you'll be greeted with a warm smile and a friendly welcome by the owner, who seems to always be there on site. If you come in more than a few times, you'll be sure to be welcomed by your name as Dharin takes time to get to know all of his patrons. Sandwiches are delicious and hand made with the best quality of meats and veggies. Craft Beer selection is amazing and second to none, as well as the unique "create your own six pack" option makes this an amazing place. Other comments have been up and down as far as pricing and affordability....so I will pitch in as well.....this is not bottom "walmart" type pricing by any means, however, it is a good value if you look at the overall value you are getting for your dollar, and the personal service you will always receive. Please help support this local business as it's one of the best hidden gems our community has to offer.

This place is awesome, better to get sandwiches here instead of down the block at Jimmy johns and the owner always includes a pickle. The owner is very friendly and is always able to answer my liquor questions quickly and offers suggestions. I would rather spend my money here and help the little guy out instead of giving it to Walmart down the block.

an interesting grocery store with a unique café. The food was very good and inexpensive. it was perfect for me to go and get a quick bite to eat without all the pretenses of going to a more formal restaurant or fast food.

This place has a great selection of microbrews and you can even mix and match to make your own 6-pack. They also have delicious sandwiches, and a walk in cigar humidor. Definitely worth going out of your way to stop here!
